TABC Awards Four Scholarship Grants
This grant is established to help TABC meet one of our established
goals; that is, involving our youth in the sport of bass fishing, and at
the same time encouraging our youth to continue their education.
TABC established two $500 scholarship grants to be awarded each year to
graduating high school seniors and to those who are already attending
junior college, college, advanced degree programs and trade schools.
Applicants must meet certain requirements as spelled out in the TABC
By-Laws. Because there were no applications received last year, the TABC
Board voted to roll those two grants into this year, resulting in four
possible awards.
Besides providing the basic applicant information, each applicant had to
provide a two page essay describing their most memorable sporting event.
On a separate page, applicants had to submit a description of volunteer
activities, committees, leadership positions, awards, honors, job
history, and community involvement.
Six applications were received this year for the four available grants.
Each Board member carefully reviewed each application, then “scored”
each application in comparison to the other applications. The scores
were tallied and the winning grants selected.
Two of the grants were named for outstanding contributions to our sport.
The other two grants are as yet unnamed.
a. The Larry Bridgeman Award. Larry was an outstanding proponent of
water management, conservation, and fisheries management at Falcon Lake,
as well as the owner of Falcon Lake Tackle.
b. The Jim Murray Award. Jim was an outstanding proponent of water
management, conservation, and fisheries management at Falcon Lake, as
well as an outstanding guide.
